South Hares Canyon Loop

Stub Stewart has over 20 miles of hiking trails. By combining trails it is possible to make loops of 2-5 miles or more in length.

The Hares Canyon trail stretches from the top boundary on the north to the Banks-Vernonia trail on the south.

I started at the Visitor center and proceeded to the trail just behind the area for the trash along the main road, ne of the visitor center. I call it the Dairy Creek W&E trail as it will take you to the campgrounds. I follow this trail to the junction of the Widow Maker trail, turn left and follow this trail to the junction of the Hares Canyon trail. Turn right and follow the Hares Canyon trail to the Banks-Vernonia trail. Turn right and follow to an un marked trail on your right, which is the Timber Beast trail. This trail will bring you out to a road. Turn right and you will come to the Brooke Creek trail, turn left and you are back to the parking lot. Total mileage 2.6+- Total Ascent 301 ft Trail rating 7 top of scale for easy. There is considerable climb after crossing the bridge on the timber beast trail. Trail surface is hard packed earth and gravel in most parts. Scenic and quiet! Video
