Timber Beast Alternative

Stub Stewart State Park in Buxton, Oregon offers alot of trails. to hike. You can utilize the many trails together to create3-5 mile loops or just short hikes. What ever you want to do.

All the trails are in the forest and the surface is hard packed earth. Some elevation gains but pretty insignificant. Lots of birds and Cougars and coyotes have been spotted this spring. So be on the lookout.

My wife and I are hosting here at the park, so I will be able to hike the trails and report back with maps and tracks for you to use in your adventures.

Timber Beast ALT

This am, I hiked the Timber Beast trail. I have hiked this one in previous years, but today I found that the trail is not marked or named, except for the park map. I also found that the trail as originally laid out has been altered at the bridge. Originally it went right after the bridge, but now it goes left. (Coming from Banks-Vernonia Trail) The trail to the right is blocked with tree debri for about 15 yards.

If you start from the Visitor Center parking lot ( usually if you park there early in the week it may be okay, however they encourage parking at top of the hill parking area, and walk back down.) The total distance from the VC parking area is about 1 mile.

You will walk down the entrance road to the Banks Vernonia trail and proceed south till you come to an unnamed trail on your left. Follow this trail til you come to the bridge, then hang a left and start uphill! It will get your heart rate up, especially if you are a senior like me!

The trail once it tops out will gradually go down and bring you out just above where the trail was previously and you will be back to the VC.

This hike is rated as Easy with a total of 115 ft elevation gain.
